(the name Berger means "shepherd" in French).
Robert Berger wine maker since 1974 started with a dandelion wine. Enthusiastic
about the result of first wine he started to make all sorts of wines. A first
label for the Chateau Berger wines was made by an old friend of Robert a painter
from the East part of the Netherlands ( from Arnhem ) William Biddle , which
you can see on the right side.
These
wines are made by using all sorts of fruits like: elderberry, strawberry,
apple, orange, pineapple, wild berry, plum, raspberry, cranberry,
blueberry; from flowers and blossoms like: hibiscus jasmin, marigold flower, elder flower; from roots like: ginger root and gentian root and the juices taking out the trunks of trees like the birch tree
and the maple tree with a special procedure as well as from rice (sake) and occasionally from grapes. We recommend
to drink wines young to enjoy the best taste. more information about this here. During the first 20 years bottling
and yeasting was more of a hobby. In
2003 after certain comments and compliments of some chefs de cuisine Robert decided to start selling his wines and turned professional. Robert Berger produces his wines in his own location in Gouda(NL).
(except 2 wines in 2005 at "Stro Vledder" a farm in the province Drenthe NL, the maple wine and a birch wine).You get a unique present by combining the wines of "Chateau Berger" with a special song composed by Robert. Samples about this original gift you can find on the site "Lied op Maat" .
